On Sunday’s during the surf season, Redhead Beach comes alive with the energy and excitement of our Nippers program. Designed for kids aged 5 to 14, Nippers teaches vital surf safety and lifesaving skills through fun, hands-on activities. It’s a great way for children to build confidence in the water, stay active, and become part of the Redhead Surf Club community. With a focus on teamwork, learning, and having a blast, Nippers is the perfect way to spend your Sundays by the sea.

For the safety and development of all participants, every Nipper from Under 6 to Under 14 must complete a proficiency evaluation before taking part in any water-based activities on beach days, at training sessions, or during carnivals.

To be eligible for the evaluation, children must be fully registered with all fees paid in full.

Proficiency dates for the 2026/27 season will be communicated shortly.

From U9’s through to U13’s, Nippers have the opportunity to paddle boards not only at Sunday Nippers, but at additional training sessions and competitions.

For those wishing to compete but do not wish to purchase a board, board hire is available.

Board Hire Costs – Season (October to March)

FOAMIE: $150 hire fee + $100 refundable bond (if returned in pre-hire condition)

FIBREGLASS: $200 hire fee + $200 refundable bond (if returned in pre-hire condition)

Important Information:
Due to an increase in board damage and rising repair and replacement costs, hire fees and bonds have unfortunately increased. These boards are expensive to maintain, so it's essential they are well cared for. If any damage occurs during the season, boards must be taken to a club-approved repairer. Please contact Ash immediately if damage is noticed, so you can be directed to the appropriate repair service. Thank you for helping us keep our surfcraft in great condition for everyone.

All Nippers from Under 9 to Under 14 are welcome to attend training sessions, provided they have successfully completed their pool proficiency.

Paddlers must bring their own board, wetsuit, and high-vis vest, along with drinking water. All surf and paddling skills will be taught during training. For those needing equipment, please visit the board hire section of our website for details on hiring a board.
